South African ODI and T20 skipper, AB de Villiers, is looking forward to settle the score against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 when the two sides meet in the much-awaited series this year.
The Proteas will ply their trade in Europe from July and the series will eventually clear the debate over which the top Test side – a title currently held by the Poms.
While the Test bouts have been the major talking points among cricket pundits, de Villiers is keen to beat the English contingent in the limited-overs version after suffering a 4-0 defeat on their last tour in 2008.
Since taking over the captaincy, de Villiers has instilled a new philosophy into the side which has seen them achieve success in successive series – first at home against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754. In addition, his own form has been impressive where he has amassed 475 runs in eight matches against the above two opponents.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s ODI Cricketer of the Year now wants his side to replicate similar success when they take on the English contingent, claiming that he will ensure that his players do not relax.
"The last time we lost 4-0 which left a bad taste in my mouth, so we have a lot to prove,” de Villiers said. "That was the big negative from that tour, that we relaxed after the test series win. But I won't allow the boys to relax.”
The itinerary for the tour includes two warm-up games, before the sides lock horns in the first of three Test matches, starting from July 19. Following the conclusion of the Test series, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 will hand over the captaincy reins to De Villiers, who will then lead the side in 5 fifty-over matches along with 3T20Is – the tour concluding at Edgbaston on Sep 12.
“There's a lot of hunger and pride around and we want to start well and play consistently throughout the tour,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 added. "It's all about keeping the guys in a hungry state, just a couple of words at the right time can switch them on again, and leading by example as well of course."
