South Africa’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 has been ruled out of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament and might not be available for national duty against Australia in October, 2011.
The flamboyant wicketkeeper batsman was playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Champions League, but will not be able to take part in the remainder of the tournament following a fractured finger.
Mohammad Moosajee, South Africa’s team manager, confirmed the news of injury. He stated, “He [de Villiers] will probably be coming back to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 tonight. He will see our panel of hand specialists after that, and we will decide what the plan of action
is.”
He further added, “I understand from the Bangalore physio that he broke the third finger on his left hand during a fielding drill. It is quite serious, that’s why he is coming back.”
De Villiers’ absence will be a huge blow for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, as he was one of the top performers for the side.
However, the team might replace the South African with Sri Lanka’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, who has also kept wickets for his national side in the past. He will be eying to make a solid impression in the upcoming matches in order to cement his spot
in the side.
The Sri Lankan batsman was not a part of the playing eleven in the first match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861. His side lost the match by three wickets and will be under pressure to win their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Thursday, September 29.
Apart from being a huge loss for RCB, de Villiers’ injury will also be a big concern for the national selectors.
South Africa will play two Twenty20s, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and a couple of Tests against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 next month and the team will like to go will full strength.
However, the selectors will have a couple of good replacements for the star wicketkeeper batsman.
