Smith’s men did become the world’s best Test team in 2009 as well but they slipped down the rankings very quickly. De Villiers however, is positive that his side will not take things for granted this time and will continue to take each
series seriously. The middle-order batsman wants his side to be focused in the upcoming encounters.
“The last time we got to the No.1 spot we threw it away like it did not really matter to us," said the wicketkeeper/batsman. “There is a real sense of care in the team and an amazing team spirit. If we can come through this year with

The 28-year-old cricketer has already represented his country in 80 Tests, 132 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 44 T20s, having scored more than 11 thousand runs at the highest stage of the game. However, De Villiers is now concentrating
on his team’s success only, instead of individual accomplishments.
“I want to be in a successful team that keeps the No.1 spot for a very long time and that dominates world cricket for a very long time. That's what I am after,” said the South African ODI skipper.
