  1. With the ABC's I would try to incorporate using ANIMALS to learn his ABC. print out pictures of Animals or Bugs with the letter that is starts with and work with him that way.with pictures and not just letters. Then with Counting I would use his favorite toys to count, or again pictures with the letters and numbers. My daughter love's to sing so I am teaching her things in song, but find out what your son's best interest is and use that to get him to learn his abcs and 123s GOod Luck and Have fun and dont stress, other wise he will pick up on it.

  2. Don't rush tooo much. Just when you get a chance, have him point things out and show others what he knows. It doesn't matter what level he's at when entering school, though.

  3. You can encourage him to become a "Letter Detective" ... A different letter each day, whether it is a Capital or a lowercase letter. Just go on a search for that letter, even creating a cardboard/stiff paper version to carry around as a reference while your out and about in your day.... or try and see how many he can find in the house and write the number down and make a chart ...

Not to mention encourage learning environmental print such as "STOP" "Exit" "McDonald's" "Cherrieo's" etc ... as that is a great way to start on the road towards reading. Just do a Google search on "Environmental Print" and you can find out how to teach it and find out more information.

Also just singing the ABC song while your waiting in lines at the bank, or library waiting to check out books ....

  4. Have him point out letters in signs around town, posters, billboards, etc.

Have him circle letters in the newspaper, like  "circle all the "Gs"  etc . ..

I also have a lot of leap frog games for my daughter and she loves playing those games.  They all teach letter recognition and sounds as well
