Question:

ABS Warning light comes on at 70mph + only?

Ford Cougar: My ABS warning light comes on on the Motorway when 70mph is reached and stays on until you switch the ignition off. The handbrake light also comes on at the same time and also stays off once the ignition has been turned off, then back on again.

Any ideas? Brakes work fine so may be just a sensor?

  1. Had this problem with a Vectra, turned out it had one new tyre and one worn tyre on the same axle. Consequently the two front wheels were revolving at different at different speeds. Another new tyre on the front cured the problem.

  2. the car is trying to tell you that if you try to stop at this speed you're sol...seriously, you are having a sensor problem, get it to a dealer and have the problem code checked...be safe.

  3. Yes, that would be my guess, sensors can work loose or get c**p on them and are the main cause.

Have alook around, if wanting to be safe you could take it in to be diagnosed, but will cost you.

Edit : pauleypf ... is probably talking about his tdds (tyre deflation detection system) this picks up different wheel speed rotations and chucks up a warning light.
