ABS warning light turns on!?

I own a subaru outback 1995. since a little more than a week it has been showing the ABS warning light on ( even though at first it turns off after I start the car). if I turn the car off and then restart it it turns off and might stay off for several days. It seems not to be related to braking, 'cause iI could brake and it just does not come on. could anybody tell me what is wrong please?

  1. You could be low on brake fluid, or it could be a wiring issue.  It also could be telling you that you have an break down somewhere within the ABS system.  Brakes are not something I want to mess with - I would take it to your mechanic and have them look at it.  The computer is setting off the code for the ABS light, a mechanic can link the diagnosis computer to your car, read the code that the ABS light is storing and tell you what is happening with your car.  Technology is amazing!  There are probably no less than 50 reasons why those idiot lights come on in cars now adays.

    Good luck!

  2. check the brake fluid level first and if full you probably have a wheel sensor starting to go bad or a loose wire to one of them.

  3. I'll bet there is something WRONG!  Your brake system may need repair!  Get it looked at immediately!

  4. my friend has a grand am and he had trouble with the abs light too, so we took the plug-ins off the sensors, cleaned them out and put electric grease in the plug-ins, no more light shining.but unhook the battery first.

  5. I had the exact same issue with my Honda Acura CL.  I took it in and he just told me my breaks were fine but just the ABS wasn't working.  You don't need ABS to stop the car but it helps in slippery conditions.  When in doubt talk to the mechanic but again you don't need ABS to operate the vehicle besides it's a technology that has only been around recently.
