Question:

AC/DC's new album only being sold in Walmart...?

What do you think of AC/DC's new album only being sold in Walmart in the U.S. I live in Canada (where it will be available everywhere), and I find it frustrating that such a popular a band would sell out...especially to Walmart. Their songs are not even going to be sold on iTunes. I would love to hear your opinion as well. Should bands be able to dictate exactly where we can buy their album?

  1. NEW YORK (Billboard) - Rock band AC/DC's first studio album in eight years, "Black Ice," will be sold exclusively in the U.S. via Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and the band's Web site, beginning October 20. First single "Rock 'n' Roll Train" will hit U.S. radio on August 28.

I'm not so sure it isn't actually a smart financial move, and both of them stand to make a killing.

I love AC/DC, but also understand they have to get paid.  There is a Wal-Mart evrywhere you go.

As for the iTunes thing, that does suck, but maybe they couldn't come to terms...? Not sure about that. Anyways, my first thought was they dictate when and where we see them play, so it's not so unusual to me. Just an opinion.

  2. It's good to support small business like that

  3. I hate it, I might not buy just out of my intense hatred for Walmart. Although they are also opening a couple of AC/DC stores in the US, I'm not sure where, but I hope somewhere near me...

  4. The yanks can order it from AC/DCs website.  I can get it anywhere in Scotland.  They are copying the Eagles.  I guess it's up to them where they sell there music.  I heard the new single today.  Brilliant.

  5. well itunes sucks anyways if your computer crashes then all of your music is gone and if you like a band enough you should be willing to drive a mile to walmart to get their CD

  6. The band isn't dictating sh*t. Wal-Mart wants to be the only place to sell AC/DC's album, so Wal-Mart pays AC/DC's management an insane amount of money, and AC/DC the band doesn't get a single say in the matter, because the management just made twice their paycheck just to let somebody sell their album. It's Wal-Mart's fault, and the record company's fault, not the band's fault. They did not sell out, how can a band who doesn't put it's music through the 2nd biggest popular means of attaining music (iTunes) ever possibly "sell out?" And besides, people are going to buy the album anyway, no matter where it's sold , because AC/DC is not only a popular but a talented and over excellent band, so people are going to buy new stuff from them even if it's only sold at f***ing Toys R Us.

  7. buy it on ebay

  8. Bands should be able to put their music on the market anywhere they like, but anyone throwing in with Wal-Mart is losing out on a lot of buyers, myself included.

  9. I think it's a shame that AC/DC is more concerned with moving tons of units at el cheapo price than with helping support independent record stores.

    **edit**

n.rkist ~ Bottom line is, their management company works FOR the band. The band has final say and *should* be paying attention. It's their decision, not managements. Management will promote their agenda (make the most $$), but I would think that getting the band's approval on something this big would be talked about *a lot* before reaching a "Walmart only" decision.

  10. The reason more bands are doing it is this.

Walmart is going to buy 3 million copies of ACDCs cds with a no return policy meaning that whats NOT sold cant be returned to the record company. Because Walmart is BUYING 3 million copies the cd will become triple platnum on its first day of release
