AC Milan's Gennaro Gattuso wary of Tottenham Hotspur supporters
AC Milan midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gennaro-Gattuso-c14525 will not travel to White Hart Line for his side’s Champions League round of 16 second leg encounter against Tottenham Hotspur on 9 March. The suspended Italian has been advised against going to London lest he invites the
wrath of the Spurs fans.
Gattuso has been handed a four-match ban for his head butt on Tottenham Assistant Coach Joe Jordan in the first leg of their Champions League encounter in Italy. However, the midfielder was still keen on travelling with the squad to witness the second leg
of the fixture, but now it seems that he has been convinced to reconsider his plans.
Gattuso admitted that he changed his mind about going to London after he was reminded that more than 40,000 Tottenham fans would be waiting to give him a piece of their mind.
In an interview with an Italian radio station, the AC Milan man said, “I have been told there will be 47,000 people there (at White Hart Lane) just waiting to give me a slap, so I will stay in Milan.”
Gattuso squared up to Jordan at the end of the first leg of the Champions League encounter between Spurs and AC Milan at the San Siro – a match which the Italian giants lost 1-0. Players from both sides had to intervene to separate the men. The midfielder
has since apologised for his actions, but he claims that Jordan was looking to pick a fight with him throughout the match.
Gattuso said, “When I went towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-c2929 at the end of the game, he took off his glasses like he was ready for a challenge. He was screaming the 'f' word at me repeatedly. My motto is 'show respect to those who show respect to you.' I went over to Joe Jordan
after the final whistle and he took of his glasses in a show of defiance and started shouting profanity at me."
AC Milan will be looking to overcome a one goal deficit when they travel to White Hart Lane for the second leg of their Champions League knockout stage clash with Tottenham Hotspur. Can the Italian giants overcome the odds to progress to the quarter-finals?
We will find out on 9 March.
