AC Milan President Silvio Berlusconi asks for a stadium to be named after him – Serie A news
Silvio Berlusconi, AC Milan President and Prime Minister of Italy, is looking forward to a new stadium for the Rossoneri and wants it to be named after him. Berlusconi, staying true to his self-praising nature, has been very vocal of his team’s success in
recent days and has taken much of the credit.
The Diavolo are just 3 games away from their 18th league title; one point from the upcoming fixtures would be enough for them to win the title. While talking to the media about the club’s achievements this season, the Milan President said:
"We only talk about the title when it's printed on the club jersey. In this case for Milan it will be the 27th major trophy (of his era) and the 26 trophies already won under my management have already made Milan the most successful team in the world and
made me the most successful president in the history of football.”
Adding further, the Italian politician hinted towards naming a stadium after himself and said:
"After me the president who won the most was the great Santiago Bernabeu and the Spanish paid tribute by naming a stadium after him."
Berlusconi’s claim of being the most efficacious president in the history of the game has a little bit of creativity with the facts. Milan have won the UEFA Champions League 5 times, the Scudetto trophy came to San Siro 7 times while the Rossoneri won the
Coppa Italia just once under his reign, in 1986.
This record does not match Santiago Bernabeu’s record of 6 Champions League titles, 16 Spanish top flight trophies and 6 Spanish Cups. Bernabeu is known to be the greatest president of all time, as he was responsible for making Real Madrid the most successful
outfit in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 and in the world.
However, the Italian likes to add titles such as Supercups and Club World Cup to his statistics and that takes his trophy haul higher than that of Bernabeu, but these competitions never existed during the Spaniards era.
