AC Milan boss aims for Champions League glory
Massimiliano Allegri has targeted a run to the UEFA Champions League final this season.
The new AC Milan manager has enough confidence in his squad that he believes he can secure the highest honour in European club football this season and can take the Serie A giants past the continent’s best teams to the final at Wembley Stadium.
He told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport that success in the Champions League is vital. He said that: "It will be a busy season but we must honour Europe. We must go all the way to the final at Wembley."
Despite having huge belief in his squad’s ability, 43-year-old Allegri has lost the services of Marco Borriello for the season after the player decided to join Roma on loan. Allegri said that: “It has been a painful assignment and he [Borriello] made a painful choice, we must however accept it.”
Dangerous forward line
However, Milan’s new-look attacking line-up is arguably the most dangerous in Europe. They already had the exceptionally talented youngster Alexandre Pato as well as two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Ronaldo de Assis Moreira (‘Ronaldinho’) among their ranks, but before the summer transfer window slammed shut, they secured the services of Zlatan Ibrahimovic on loan from Barcelona as well as Robson de Souza (‘Robinho’) on a permanent deal from English Premier League outfit Manchester City.
With such a world-class forward line, the club’s veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi told Studio Sport that he believes his team must be considered as one of the favourites for European glory this season. He said that: "Our attack? It's fantastic. It's one that can make us win the Champions League. We cannot hide now. I am very proud to be playing for Milan. It's always a privilege for me."
