A.C Milan beat Napoli 3-0 in a Serie A encounter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Monday evening. Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Prince-Boateng-c20792 helped the hosts to extend their lead to five points on top of the league table.
AC Milan manager, Massimiliano Allegri, made three changes to his starting line-up that beat Chievo 2-1 last weekend. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Pato-c4901. On the other
hand, Walter Mazzarri made wholesale changes to his side that lost 2-1 to Villarreal in the UEFA Europa League last 32 round in the midweek.
Both teams began the first half cautiously and they looked to gain possession. High stakes were involved in the game as a win for either side could put them in the driver’s seat for winning the title. First chance of the game fell to Milan, when Ibrahimovic
rocketed a shot from 20 yards, which narrowly missed the upright. Soon after, Marek Hamsik tried his luck from 25 yards but his shot whistled past the far post. Milan dominated the possession for majority of the game and threatened on the counter attack. The
hosts should have scored on the brink of first half, but Salvatore Aronica made a superb sliding block to deny Mark Van Bommel from ten yards after Robinho’s effort was deflected.
The second half witnessed an exciting start, immediately after resumption, Van Bommel’s volleyed effort was superbly saved by Morgan de Sanctis to deny the Dutch midfielder. Milan were awarded a penalty in the 47th minute, when a Napoli defender
handled the ball in his own penalty area. Ibrahimovic whipped the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 for the hosts. Moments later, Milan should have scored their second of the evening but the goalkeeper made a beautiful save to deny Pato. Milan
doubled their advantage in the 76th minute, Pato was released on the left wing, and the Brazilian picked out Boateng at the near post, who diverted the ball past De Sanctis to make it 2-0 for the hosts. Four minutes later, Pato scored the third
of the evening. The Brazilian made a blistering run on the counter attack and skipped past two defenders before curling the ball expertly into the top corner to seal the tie at 3-0 for Milan.
Milan will play their next match against Juventus on 5th March, while Napoli take on Brescia on 6th March.
