AC Milan defender Thiago Silva defends Leonardo’s managerial move to Internazionale: Serie A news
Milan defender Thiago Silva has come out in defence of former AC Milan manager Leonardo on his controversial move to city rivals Inter Milan ahead of the crucial Derby della Madonnina at San Siro. He said that the manager’s move
to Inter was a professional one and he has no hard feelings for the Nerazzurri manager.
Leonardo was a Milan player in the 90s and continued with a scout and agent role for the club after retiring as a player. The Brazilian was named the Rossoneri manager in the summer of 2009 but left the club after a poor first
season and a series of disagreements with Silvio Berlusconi.
The former Brazilian international accepted to manage rivals Internazionale in December last year after Rafael Benitez left the club following a poor season with the club. Leonardo has since brought the Serie A champions back in
contention for the Scudetto and Inter are only two points behind their Milan rivals.
“I was happy for Leonardo. After all, he wasn’t the one who wanted to walk away, but rather things happened within the club that he didn’t like. A few months later, he received an offer from a rival side. There’s no reason to stay
out of work when a once in a lifetime opportunity comes along,” http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Silva-c34903 was quoted as saying.
The centre-back admitted that there are still people who are annoyed with Leonardo and they will surely raise their voices in the derby. Silva expects the Nerazzurri manager to be calm as Milan has been a very important part of
him.
“He has done so much for Milan, but I am sure there will be some jeers against him. I also know he’ll stay calm and will not respond. At the end of the day, he owes a lot to Milan and Milan owe a lot to him,” concluded the Brazilian.
AC Milan will take on Internazionale on Saturday, April 2, 2011. The Serie A clash is widely being regarded as the title decider, as the winner will end up leading the Serie A standings with seven games to go.
