AC Milan midfielder warns of difficult times ahead
AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso claims that the Serie A giants are in for a tough time against their opponents after a strong start to the season.
The seven-time European champions have already qualified from a UEFA Champions League qualifying group — which also features Spanish giants Real Madrid, Dutch outfit Ajax and French side Auxerre — with a game to spare.
Milan, who have also won 17 Italian League titles in their rich history, are also three points clear of Lazio at the top of the Serie A table, with defending champions and fierce rivals Inter Milan nine points behind.
But while life is rosy for the San Siro club at the moment, former Italy international Gattuso has warned that Milan have turned themselves into a prized scalp and as such, he believes other teams will raise their game when they face his side.
He told Milan Channel: “Difficult times are still to come. All the teams we face from now will come into the game with the attitude that they are facing the Serie A leaders and will give 100 per cent. Playing against Milan is always an important event for
every team, but when you are in front then every game takes you one step closer. Three points is more and more important, week by week.”
2006 FIFA World Cup winner Gattuso added that he was pleased Milan were doing so well and that he felt he has made a full return from a severe injury sustained two years ago.
He said: "Things are going much better than last season. I felt the same adrenaline and sensations as I do now before my serious injury in 2008. I never thought a cruciate ligament injury would be a walk in the park, nor did I expect so many problems. Thank
God everything is going well now."
