The Rossoneri defender insists that the club’s defence did well against the inevitable pressure from Blaugrana attack; insists the side will need unity to topple the opposition.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniele-Bonera-c10109 has insisted that the pressure was foreseeable from the Barcelona attack, and praised his side that stood-up well to the tremendous challenge from the opposition.
The Rossoneri’s first-leg of the UEFA Champions League tie against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 ended in a 0-0 stalemate. Despite a draw in the home fixture, the game is being held as a triumph for the Diavolo due to the marvellous defensive display by the club, even though
they were missing key defenders http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ignazio-Abate-c16673.
The former Parma player insisted that he was expecting a tough time in the defence, and was ready for the challenge. He insisted that due to the clean-sheet, the qualification for the semi-final is wide open for the Milan outfit, and they should be pleased
about it.
While talking to the press, the 30-year-old said:
“It was inevitable we would be under pressure and we had the ball more in defence than in attack, but we did well, qualification is still wide open and that was our objective.”
Bonera urged his team to gear up for another resolute performance in the away-leg. The Casciavit midfielder insisted that it will be a difficult task to go into the lion’s den and score goals, but believes that with a cohesive effort they can beat the champions.
“On Tuesday we will try to put in another great performance. We know that we have to go there and try to score goals. It won’t be easy, but with unity of intent we will make up for the absentees.”
The defender has been alternating positions at the right-back and the full-back positions in the Rossoneri defence, but insisted that he prefers playing in the central-defence. The guard revealed that he has his eye set on the Euro 2012, and will be keeping
himself in good shape in order to increase his chances of selection in the Azzurri side.
“I just like playing! With my characteristics, I think I’m better in the middle of the defence. Do I have a chance at the Euro 2012 squad? I just intend to stay in good shape and play consistently, then the rest will follow.” He added.
