Recently crowned scudetto winners, AC Milan have secured the signing of Nigerian international defender, Taye Taiwo, on a three-year deal on a Bosman transfer. The Nigerian underwent a medical in Milan today and sealed his move from French side Olympique
Marseille to Milan.
While talking to the media, the left-back said that he was delighted with a move to Milan and is looking forward to winning many honours with the Italian giants.
Taiwo spoke about his transfer in a press conference, “I thank God for this move, joining another big team like AC Milan is a dream come true, I am leaving a big club for another one, one I was only able to dream of playing for as a kid. I will surely miss
the city and Olympique Marseille, the fans, players, management and French football in general. It is emotional and sad to leave a place I have come to call home but I'm taking a piece of Marseille with me.”
The defender sees the move to Italy as a new chapter in his life and appeared super excited by the opportunity ahead of him.
The defender added, “I hope to bring my best to a team that's parading great players already,” he added. “The three-year deal is signed now and all I can do is give my all to a dream club and win trophies to complete the union. I am a happy man and my immediate
target is to be a winner here.”
Taiwo has become the fourth African player in the AC Milan team, joining Ghanaian Kevin Prince Boateng, Rodney Strasser of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sierra-Leone-c3004 and compatriot Nnamdi Oduamadi.
The left-back has been a key figure in Marseille’s recent successes and helped the French team secure their 18th Ligue 1 title last year. The player also helped his former side win the French Cup by scoring the winner in the final, last month.
Marseille was his first ever club in Europe, which he joined back in 2005 and appeared more than 200 times for in competitive fixtures, including the coveted UEFA Champions League.
Next year he will be playing in the Champions League with Milan after the Italians won the Italian Serie A and have qualified for Europe’s premier football competition.
