AC Milan ‘set to reveal Robinho signing’
AC Milan have reportedly won the race to sign Manchester City’s wantaway striker Robson de Souza (‘Robinho’).
According to a report by Sky Sport, the Serie A giants are set to reveal the signing of striker at a press conference tomorrow. Milan are said to be on the verge of snapping up the 26-year-old on a one-year loan with a view to making the deal permanent at the end of the season. As part of the deal, Milan may let striker Marco Borriello move in the opposite direction.
Robinho has been looking to secure a move away from the City of Manchester Stadium all summer. He had been the subject of interest and bids from Greek and Turkish outfits, but had rejected those potential moves as he held out for a move to either Italy or Spain.
High-profile signing
Should Robinho move to Italy, he will become Milan’s second high-profile signing of a forward in a matter of days after the secured the services of Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Barcelona at the weekend.
After they snapped up the Swedish striker Milan president Silvio Berlusconi hinted that, with Robinho in mind, the club could make another signing before the transfer window closes tomorrow. He told La Gazzetta dello Sport today that: "If a certain player interests us and is functional to our needs then we will be ready for another hit."
Robinho started his career with Santos in his homeland and won two Brazilian league titles before making the switch to Real Madrid in 2005. In three seasons in Spain, the striker made 132 appearances and scored five goals. He also enjoyed two La Liga triumphs and also picked up a Supercopa de Espana winners’ medal.
He joined City for a fee of 42.5 million euros in 2008 and scored 15 times in his first season. However, he struggled to adjust to life in England and, with selection for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in mind, he moved back to Santos in January 2010 on a six-month loan deal.
