I am looking for a unit that allows the timing to be set which allows the unit to come on and stay on for a set amount of time. Then shut off and come on no sooner that a set amount of time. I am finding that my unit is cycling too many times in an hour. I set my temp at 73 and it comes on every 20 mins and stays on for less tan 10 mins. I know that I am not hitting my peak seer in that amount of time, so I want to fins a thermostat that allows me to set the cycle times. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to contact me.

  2. The unit is doing as was intended. Your concern should be to raise the desired temp a few degrees. It only runs based on YOUR thermostat setting. If it does not cycle, there is no way to maintain your desired temp. The peek seer is being achieved as best by your settings. The SEER is the rating given the the units efficiency not the amount or duration of cycles.

You may buy a Programmable Thermostat and set times where a higher temp is acceptable. It would raise the set temp while you were away, and change back before you return.

  3. A thermostat is part of your safey circuit, and should never be settable by timing as opposed to temprature. This is especially true during heating season. Its purpose is temperature. Don't try to change that.

  4. What I would consider is...

    1. Are the windows older or E-glass? close the blinds might help on the sunny side of the house,. 2. Is the attic too hot? Insulate, and ventilate.... ridge vent or turbine fan, works well in the event you have dark shingles and no shade.

It will run alot less withevrything closed up...
