Question:

AC not blowing?

Our AC is working, but not blowing. What can we do? It's 100 degrees outside...help!

  1. Often it is a bad fan relay. You could try turning off the A/C and then try turning the fan switch from auto to on. Try it a number of times to see if you can free up the relay and get the fan to come on.

    If the fan comes on then leave it on and turn the A/C switch back to on.

    Of course I am assuming you didn't fail to clean or replace your filter and you froze it up.

    Or maybe you might try giving the air handler a slap on the side near the control board. Sometimes ya just gotta know where to hit it.

    But of course one way or another you likely need a service call,


  2. Don't run the unit like that to avoid damage.

    You may have a fan motor out.

    Check the indoor unit to see if there are any signs that the coil would be froze up. This would restrict airflow even though your blower motor may be running.

    If it's froze up you will have to let it defrost completely and then determine why it froze.

    Some causes would be a plugged filter, dirty evaporator coil, fan motor not running.

    If it's not the filter call a tech out to repair.
