Question:

AC vent not working?

I don't think the AC vent in my bedroom is working. The rest of the house feels somewhat cool (at least tolerable) but my room is always warmer than the rest of the house. What should I do?

  1. it also depends on how far your room is from the ac unit.. the air heats the further it is from the unit.  are you on the south of the house.. in the upper story?  those things make a diff.. esp. the SW corner of the house.

make certain to keep the windows closed as soon as the night air starts to warm.. close curtains around the window.. and shades as well..  these help block the heat a little bit.  you might think of getting a nice, simple fan to help with the distribution of the air.

  2. May be it run out of gass.

  3. Get on a ladder and feel of the air coming out of the vent.  AC duct work is part knowledge and part guess work!  Check to make sure the vent is open. It could be your bedroom doesn't get good air flow due to the design of the duct work or it may be the room at the end of the duct work - the fartherest room away from the AC unit - and just might not get a good supply of cool air for the size of the room.  Also, your room might face in such a direction that it gets hot noon and afternoon sun.  You might need to get in the attic and make sure there are no major air leaks in the duct work.

  4. besides leaks in the ducting, the supply air is subjected to a trip through an attic that is probably around 190 degrees.  The insulation surrounding your ducts may be terribly inadequate or horribly damaged by unwelcome friends.
