Hey, cold air isn't blowing out of my AC. It's only warm. I was told to put anti-freeze in, but I wanted to double check.

  1. You may need freon added or your A/C may be toast. I had the same situation this last week and thought I just needed freon~I found out that the AC needs $1000 worth a repair. I am sooo screwed this summer. IT IS HOT HERE! :(

  2. couple of things could be wrong .. how old the car is ? could be just a fuse or the ac may need to be recharged ..take it in to find out then you can go from there..to have them fix it or find some one but first find out the problem get estimate then shop around..

  3. Anti-freeze is definitely what you need.

My dad had the same problem with the AC, and that's what he got.

  4. Take your car in for diagnostics and find out what parts it needs, then go to the auto parts store and buy them. After that make an appointment to have them installed. You will only pay for diagnostics and labor. You`ll save on the parts, especially if a dealership is involved. I`ve saved a heap buy paying for repairs in this manner.

Keep all receipts for warranty claims including the labor charges. It will prove you had the work done at a professional shop. Don`t let them tell you, they can`t guarantee the work just because you bought the parts elsewhere.

They will need to charge it with new freon and should work like new. Good luck!

  5. Let's run down the list of things

    1. look under the hood for the A/C sticker if it says 134A charge then you are OK if it is older than about 95. You are out of luck unless Donald trump is a close relative. Having the system converted to a 134A system is expensive. If it is a 134A system go to 2

    2. simply go to the auto parts store and buy a recharge kit, follow directions and WITH the A/C on you should hear the compressor cycling on and off if it is not then try a recharge. you will hear it start cycling then watch the gauge per instructions.

3 it gets worse. if the charge doesn't do it or you see a leak you need to go have it serviced. If you want to try fixing the leak go ahead but if you are not inclined to this type of work pay someone, it's guaranteed

The worst scenario is a bad compressor in which I would also suggest the expansion valve and the dryer be changed also. Then the A/C system is next to new.. Ya it will run 5-800 bucks but it will work.

  6. Anti freeze only protects the heater coil from freezing. Has nothing to do with a/c operation. Sounds like you need some refrigerant added to system. Better check for leaks also. Go to an a/c specialty shop. Stay away from dealer.
