I converted all my songs into 192 kbps mp3 using itunes. before they were 128kbps ACC files. i thought that the mp3s would sound better but recently i found out that there is no difference. should i convert back the mp3s into 128 kbps ACC files? or would that be a waste of time for me.

  1. Mp3 is simply best

  2. What you've done is made a 'Transcode' (converting one 'lossy' format (a format that looses quality during conversion) to another lossy one).

If you convert back to the AAC there shouldn't be a major difference in quality if any, you'll also have more space on your iPod.

However, if you were to hear qualities of 320kbps upwards you wouldn't touch 128 with a barge pole ever. My suggestion is to download music (from now on) in mp3 v0 format and then convert them to 192kbps for your mp3 player if you have one.

To Bob's Your Uncle: If you convert from 320kbps or FLAC to 192 mp3 the quality difference will be negligible.

Like I said, download/rip music in high quality, convert it, delete it (if need be) and all will be fine.

  4. The MP3s will take up some more space because they use 192kb for every second of music while the ACC files only use 128kb for every second. However, during the conversion process, some data can be lost and quality reduced. Therefore, it is probably better simply to keep them as MP3s now they have been converted that way.

If music comes as an MP3 originally, it is definitely best to keep them in this format - converting them to ACC will lose a significant amount of data and quality reduced. If files come as ACC, keep them in that format. On the whole, simply keep audio files in the format they come in, unless you need to convert them for a special purpose (i.e. to make them work with software or with a device like an iPod).

    Hope this answers your question

  5. No , converting between formats lowers quality every time.
