ACL: Coach Gary Kubiak calls LB Brian Cushing ousting setback for Houston Texans – NFL News
Coach Gary Kubiak has described the season-ending departure of linebacker Brian Cushing, who requires a surgery in two weeks to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) that he suffered in the game against the New York Jets on Monday (Oct. 08), a major
blow for the Houston Texans.
Brian is the main tackler for the team and the coach has admitted it will seriously affect the team on the defensive position, a possible setback to their hopes of progressing through the regular season and beyond successfully.
Gary said:
"A big blow for our team. We have to have guys pick it up around him and we've got to find a way to move forward. We're all just disappointed for him. It's a tough day for him."
He added:
"I do know that there are crises in this league, and every team has them. We've had our share here the last couple of years, and boy, if this is the first one (this year), it's a big one."
The Texans are undefeated in the season so far and would like to stay so, but as the coach points it out they need to have all the players hundred percent healthy and fit.
So far it has been a well coordinated team effort from the Texans where from quarterback to running back and linebacker all mattered a lot at their respective positions.
The coach confirmed that the detailed scans performed on the player’s knee have proven it is an ACL, which will require him to have a procedure done on the knee in two weeks.
It is from the surgery that the doctors will be able to assess a recovery timeline for the player which nevertheless is least likely to facilitate his return to action this season at all.
Two main issues in recovery from these injuries are that they have an unpredictable healing timeframe and a number of setbacks are associated to the recovery process. So giving an exact timeline for recovery and return of the player at the outset of surgery
is difficult for doctors and the team.
