ACT Brumbies head coach Jake White expresses his desire to acquire Danie Rossouw - Rugby
Australian Super Rugby franchise, ACT Brumbies, newly appointed coach Jake White has expressed his desire to sign the Springboks’ World Cup winning second row forward, Danie Rossouw. White was the head coach of the Springboks 2007 World Cup winning outfit
of which Rossouw was a key part.
The 33-year-old Rossouw is a South African Rugby Union player and he started his professional rugby union career with Super Rugby franchise Blue Bulls in 1999. At the end of the 2011 Super Rugby championship, Rossouw parted ways with the Bulls to join Japanese
rugby union club, Suntory.
White has expressed his desire to acquire the services of Rossouw on a short-term contract from Suntory. Keeping in view the fact that the former Wallabies head coach and White’s former assistant coach, Eddie Jones, is the current head coach of Suntory,
the move is expected to be hassle free.
Commenting on Rossouw’s short-term stay at Brumbies, White said, “That's one thing we would obviously look at, I want Eddie to be happy with the fact there is a win-win for him as well. A guy like Danie Rossouw, if we could get a deal, that would be fantastic.”
White commented that it’s very difficult to find good second row forwards or locks in Australia and he found it difficult to the get replacements for the outgoing Brumbies locks Mark Chisholm and Mitch Chapman. Chisholm, the former Wallabies international
lock is moving to France, while Cisholm is leaving for Japan.
White added, “I found in Australia a lot of second-rowers are very young. I'm trying to get a more experienced guy. I'll wait and see who I can get to fulfil that role. I would rather get a guy into my squad sooner rather than later.”
White also confirmed that beside Rossouw, he has approached a few Springboks and All Blacks. However, he has also confirmed that the players are concerned that their possible signing with immediately effect their selection in their respective World Cup squads
and are reluctant to commit anything for now.
Rossouw is currently part of the Springboks’ squad for their 2011 Tri Nations campaign.
