ACT Brumbies promise stern contest against the Western Force on Sunday
The ACT brumbies have promised its fans to present better display of game against the Western Force on Sunday.
The Brumbies would play their first match in the daylight after beating the Queensland Reds during last month. The overall performance of the both teams has remained poor during ongoing Super Rugby championship.
The ACT Brumbies have been placed on 10th position on the point’s tables whereas the Western Force team is on overall 13th position. 15 teams from three SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby) member countries are participating in the Super
Rugby season 15.
Both the Australian teams have been placed 4th and 5th position among their other home sides. Earlier on, the Brumbies were considered a better side and their supporters raised expectation regarding their performance in the championship.
However, the Brumbies disappointed the fans with sluggish play as they were defeated in four consecutive matches before beating the Hurricanes on last Saturday. During their last clash with the Hurricanes a record lowest home crowd was observed since 2000.
The match could only attract the 12,333 supporters to watch the action live.
Following the poor viewer ship by their home crowd the Brumbies have hoped to bring more people to the stadium with their better show. However, the team officials are concerned about tough cold weather that can be a hurdle to bring healthy crowd to the arena.
The official said that match has been timed in daylight due to the severity of the cold.
Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan told the media about it, “Given that we're getting into some of the colder months of the year we thought it provides an opportunity to watch the game before it gets too dark and too cold.”
It would have been a wonderful match in the presence of Steve Walsh who was named official referee of the game. Walsh was ruled out form his duties due to calf injury couple of days ago. Walsh had a row with the Brumbies as he made some controversial decisions
against them in April 2010. The skipper Matt Giteau responded harshly towards Walsh’s appointment as referee and he was fined $5000 for his irresponsible comments. Keith Brown will perform the duties with whistle on the day as his substitute.
On the other hand, Western Force is ready to face the Brumbies with the same strategy they played against the New South Wales Waratahs during last week. Although they are having a poor season but they are determined to play well.
Western Force fly half Willie Ripia, who made his Super Rugby debut during last match said, “That’s the challenge and we’ve got to try and accept that challenge of trying to break the old typical Force season that’s been going for years.”
