Okay recently I took the ACT exam last month june and I got a composite score of 13(didn't get writing part back yet, plus this was my first time taking it, didn't study much before). Mad at myself I am trying to study harder so I can prepare myself for September's Act exam. So on one of the practice test I took I got a composite score of 18. Is this a good score, so far? I am setting a goal to get no lower than an 18 and I will rise it more to higher standards when I feel more confident in more scores and its shows more consistency. So what do you think?

Also does anyone have any advice for me on the Act at all like how to manage time? Get higher scores?

Plus I am a going to be a Senior this Fall

  1. Okay for starters the first grade you got on the actual ACT exam was a bad score and you really need to do much better. But the score you got on your practice Act exam is much better. Just keep practicing more. It seems to me you didn't study that much or at all for the actual exam th first time. Now that your studying and trying much harder you are close, but still no cigar.

As for advice when you are doing the practice test get a stopwatch or a timer or whatever and do that part of the test the time its suppose to last. Make sure to work on the time cause that could either make or break your grade. Practice on each section one at a time (esp the sec. your weakest at). Then when time gets closer to the ACT like 5 weeks before do the whole entire test under those exact test conditions and grade yourself on how well your doing and practice, practice, practice until those grades go up. So far the current strategy you got going is good too. now that you got an 18 on the practice test try to score for no lower than a 19 and as they increase bring your standards up. The key is to manage time properly, focus and practice but don't stress yourself out to much. The night of the exam DON'T STUDY it will cause you to become impatient.

I know you can do it. I feel it in you trust me you have the potential you just got to practice and work for what you want. also whatever wrong answers you get go over it and understand why you got it wrong.

GOOD LUCK! DON'T LET OTHERS PUT YOU DOWN! YOU'LL PROBABLY BE COMPETING WITH THEM TO GET INTO THE SAME COLLEGE.

  2. Not to be mean or anything, but those scores are not going to get you into any college that considers itself mildly good.

You need to at least get in the 20s to attempt anything.

But the ACT Prep book called "The REAL ACT" or something like that, it's from the makers of the test, and it's really helpful. It explains everything about the test and about the scores so you can tell what's good and what isn't.

I also recommend going to www.collegeboard.com and looking at the average ACT scores for the colleges that you want to go to so you will have a realistic score to aim for.

Good luck, and I know you can do much better.
