ADCB and Dubai Polo Team win matches in UAE President Polo Cup
Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) and Dubai Polo Team emerged victorious against Tom Ford and Al Basti Polo Team in the round matches of the President of the UAE Polo Cup. The matches were played on Wednesday at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club in the United
Arab Emirates (UAE).
It is pertinent to mention here that the season closing event (President of the UAE Polo Cup) is one of the significant tournaments in the entire region.
In the opening match of the day, Hugo Barabucci lit the lamp four times, as (ADCB) Polo Team powered an 8-4 victory over Tom Ford Polo Team.
Among the other legendary performers for the victory, Nasser al Dhari scored thrice, while Matias Colombres accounted for a single point. It was an overall best performance from the combination of Emirati and Argentina-based players, who ruined the defence
line of Tom Ford.
Ramiro Dagna and Oscar Colombres (the brother of Matias Colombres) scored two goals apiece and led the offence of the Tom Ford Polo Team. They received the goals in the first two chukkas of the total four and remained goal-less in the third and fourth frames.
Emirati player, Dhari was of the view that it was a great contest and they delivered best performances of the season. He underlined, “Hugo was a class act as always and I was very happy with my performance. Tom Ford played well also, but we were just stronger
and a little more aggressive. Like us, Tom Ford won their opening game so we knew that we had to beat them.”
ADCB will face Ghantoot, the title holders of the league, to earn a place in the finals of the President of the UAE Cup. Dhari opined that they would have to play more intended game in the next competition if they wanted to win the game.
Dubai Polo Team 7 – Al Basti Polo Team 6
Dubai Polo Team in their match against Al Basti marked seven goals against the six of its competitor and won the nail-biting contest. The Dubai Polo Team's line-up comprised of youngsters, Rashid bin Drai, Habtoor al Habtoor, Gaston Devrient and Nicolas
Petrachi.
Petrachi scored three times, while his team-mate, Devrient, added two scores in the triumph. The local youngsters Bin Drai and Habtoor scored one each in the four-chukka action and made the victory possible for their team.
Petrachi was of the opinion that the match was filled with amazements and fascinations. He stated, “Al Basti played well. It was a very close game that could have gone both ways, but thanks to Rashid stopping a 50-yard penalty that would have seen the scores
tied; we managed to hang on until the end.”
It would be interesting to see how these two teams perform in the next round and if they are able to keep up their momentum of winning-streak.
