ADCB ride into the President of the UAE Polo Cup Finals
The legendary performance of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) lifted them into the grand finals of the President of the UAE Polo Cup.
The unconquered foursome of ADCB made it three in a row, as it overwhelmed Ghantoot in the third match of the tournament by one goal and secured a spot in the title-claiming fight of the event. The match was contested at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club in
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
With a polished outfit, ADCB delivered an outstanding performance on the field and scored some seven goals against the six of its rivals in the four-chukka competition. The attackers of Ghantoot, the former title holders though attempted to stop the advancement
of ADCB in the event, but failed to do so. The opening set of play belonged to Ghantoot, but the goal-scoring machines of ADCB with firing shots on Ghantoot goal established their early domination in the game.
Hugo Barabucci was the leading scorer of ADCB in the consecutive second match and scored five goals in the game. Gonzalo Azumendi of Ghantoot also displayed wonderful show and set the pace with five scores, but to no avail.
Leading scorer of the day, Barabucci admired the role of Nasser al Dhari and Matias Colombres saying that they made the victory possible in the significant game. He in a pleasing state of mind stated, “We are now very much looking forward to the final when
we will hopefully also perform as well as we did today (Friday). This is a very important tournament and we are delighted to have reached final and we hope to see a lot of people coming to watch us.”
In the second contest of the day, Dubai Polo Team failed to maintain its momentum and lost to Tom Ford by a difference of three goals. The youngsters of Dubai Polo Team could only score three goals against the six of their challengers.
A player of winning-side, Oscar Colombres was of the opinion that it was a tough game, but they handled it with different strategies and became successful. In an explaining way, he said that they played a tight game in the third set of play and earned another
penalty-shot in the final frame thanks to that which helped them to win the game with commanding difference.
In the upcoming competitions, Ghantoot will meet Dubai Polo Team while Al Basti Polo Team will play against Tom Ford on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
The finals of the tournament will be held on April 1, at the same venue. ADCB has secured a spot for the title-claiming contest, while the other contestant has not been finalised so far.
