  1. Dont bother Adelaide is the most boring place in Australia. Go to Perth they have the best weather and the best beaches thats a well kept secret.

  2. You have picked a very nice place to live. Depends where in Adelaide tho. City is fine, lots of new apartment blocks going up. Its on the coast, and some suburbs obviously are better than others. From North Haven to Glenelg is lovely. Further on is a little cheaper but still nice. Adelaide hills have lovely suburbs but watch out for the bushfires if you go there. We have good weather, but we are the driest State in the driest continent. and dont we know it  at the moment.!There are water restrictions, (mind you , the other States have water restrictions too, we are in a bad drought at the moment.,) lst day of Autumn today, blue skies, sunshine, its magic mate. Food prices not bad, Petrol, varies. around 1 dollar 30cents a litre . You get roughly 2dollars to your l pound at the moment. Good luck. Dont be a 'whinger' and you'll do just great.

  3. Adelaide is Australias best kept secret, while the Eastern States would have you believe that they have the best places in Australia, you will soon find out for yourself how great it is here.

    Welcome :)))))

  4. it depends on your idea of worthwhile.

the drought has put to sleep the idea of the adelaide hills.

    food is fine

    beaches good for fishing

    surfing in victor harbour

    museums

    motor racing

    horsey things galore

the Mall (Rundle Mall)......oh yeah there is a preacher who is standing on the east end of Rundle Mall, ex Brittish citizen, if you are inclined to be religious, see Him, He is holding out signs on wed. mornings.

alcohol is the thing that the fellas do, but it is a deplorable act and should be banned for it is frying the minds of all our young ones.

  5. make sure you go to the barossa valley and stay in one of the lovely b=b 's they have there - be warned though July/August in Adelaide and around can be quite chilly - take a fleece!!!

  6. I was born in Adelaide, have lived in Melbourne, have a son in Perth (expensive), and have recently been to Somerset and West Sussex (Littlehampton area). I found the whole of the south of England similar to Adelaide, except for the humidity. We don't have any! At least now, in the worst heat wave on 70 years we don't.

I now live in the Adelaide Hills, where you'll find many little towns named after English towns. I live in Macclesfield, 45km from the city centre, where we are as rural as Mark or Highbridge, only much smaller. We even have a Littlehampton not far from here, only it's 40km from the sea!

South Australia was settled by people who came here voluntarily, and the accent shows this. I was accused of being Kentish because of my Adelaide accent once. The city isn't as fast as the Eastern States cities of Melbourne or Sydney, where they are incessantly competing against each other. Adelaide just gets on with it. It is more known for it's arts than anything, although we do have a stupid V8 car race every year through the East parkland area. Anything particular you wanted to know? We will be happy to answer anything here.

July will be midwinter, so you should be familiar with the 'mild' weather, and settle in well.

  7. Adelaide is very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Glenelg beach is quite nice. Victors Harbour is a good place - very quaint.
