  1. I love Adelaide!

I've been there a couple of times over the past 20 years. It is a city with wonderful beaches. The Adelaide Hills are not far away, and offer sleepy little towns, and great nature.

Personally, I am not a fan of big cities, perhaps that's why I think Adelaide is not boring, it is just right.

There are nice pubs and restaurants, so you don't need to test the Adelaide floater if you are not into pies and pea soup. :)

Sure, summers are hot, but then it is hot anywhere in Australia. But there are distinctive seasons, and spring and autumn often reminded me on the weather in Europe, cool and rainy. I haven't been there in winter yet.

    Good luck!

  2. Well its got to be better than bloody england man ! Head 750 kms east to Melbourne for a far better lifestyle. Adelaide is for bungalow dwelling mortgage payers with overgrown kids who won't leave home. It is a neat clean city but small and uninspiring. S.A. has a nice coastline though on down towards the Fleureau Peninsula etc. but for a city and the life and for wider options all round I would choose Melbourne. I partly grew up in Adelaide and took off to Melbourne never looking back. Adelaide also has a grim history of underlying weirdness, bizarre murders, child molesters and sexual creepy crawlers ! City of "churches" hmmm ? The devil comes in many disguises...... I know my Oz mate believe me.

  3. Yeah I stayed there for 6 months while I was on a working holiday in OZ, I got a great job and liked it so much I stayed.

The nightlife is good, quite indie, it's a fun place and not many Brits..I made some great friends for life there as they are very friendly and accomodating.

Theres a student population, loads of nice restaurants, a great beach at Glenelg which you can get to by tram from the city, great vibe there!

Not as touristy by far as the other cities so it is a great place to live, you wouldn't want tourists on your doorstep if you were living there and thats the reason I liked it so much. In Sydney etc you are lucky to meet a true Aussie!

You can get away from it all to the wine country or some absolutely to die for country restaurants on a day trip aswell.

You will have a great time- I think that Its more about the people you meet rather than the place and I can guarantee that you will make friends very very easily ... you will love it.

My lasting memories are FRIENDS FRIENDS FRIENDS!

  4. I'm sure you'll love it.

My family came here from England, they would never leave.'

Don't tell anyone you like it though, we like to keep it a secret ;)))

  5. I lived there for several years then moved to a bigger city.Sorry but I found Adelaide very boring also.

  6. Its great....I agree with all of the above and would like to add that we have The best festivals....The Fringe (indie arts and performance fest), The Arts festival, Womadelaide (international music fest),  plus lots of mini festivals throughout the year...they don't call it the festival state for nothing.....we also brew the best beer...Coopers Ale!

  7. it is like England 30 years ago - very traditional - with fab beaches and amazing scenes. Only down side is the shopping - not as good as other big cities, take things with you like, toiletries as they are expensive about 8$ for shampoo!!! my friend lives in the Barossa Valley and when i visit her i always have to take with me - next jeans and tops ! cadburys chocolate , booze (vodka as about $30 a bottle) toiletries - this is really the only down side and then that is only a small thing! just get any visitors to bring stuff over!!!

    have fun xxxxx

  8. I am there.  I asked a perfectly logical question.  It was answered by an Australian who proceeded to insult me.  I can't wait to get away.

I've sent you a link for one of my contacts. He is a Scot living in Adelaide for 40 odd years i think. He should be able to tell you all about it. As far as i know, he loves it.

    bon voyage.

  10. Very hot,dry place.sleepy town but has night life also, nice cricket ground.its clean and people are friendly.great places nearby for the outdoors.stress free lifestyle it nice and you'll enjoy it

  11. Stopped at Tailem Bends near Adelaide, found people very nice, then travelled through , to Adelaide hills where there is a lovely motorcycle museum, then out to barosa valley, which is the wine region, i found the whole thing quite enchanting.

I'm sure you will enjoy the area

  12. WHY?

I have lived here my whole life, and am trying to get out of here! It is ridiculously hot here in summer (and I see plenty of English people like you red as lobsters, so slap on some sunscreen, d**n it!). We have a pathetic state cricket team (even worse than TASMANIA...) and love to eat really weird things, such as "Frog" cakes (disappointingly, with no real frog inside) meat pies with mushy green peas (as if the look of it wasn't enough to make you sick...) and fritz and sauce sandwiches (No, not that German guy Fritz, the over processed random animal parts turned into a log of sandwich meat!)

My "abiding memories" are missing out on concerts because bands don't want to come to such a backwater. That and being amused by those tshirts: "South Australia; It's Heaps Good"...

    :)

  13. Adelaide? One word for it, BORING!!!!!!!!!
