  1. We moved to Adelaide two years ago from Melbourne and love it.  We are in our early 30's and have had no trouble finding work.  It is an extremely relaxing place to live and you can get out of the city in next to no time.  The weather is pretty good all year round though depending on where you are emigrating from it can get pretty warm in the summer.  However most houses have air conditioning because of this.  As the other posts have noted try not to live in areas like Port Adelaide, Salisbury and Elizabeth, they are all pretty rough areas.  You will also probably need to buy a car as mostly the public transport system is difficult and unreliable though this depends on where you live.  Some areas have better service than others.  In general people are very friendly and it is a very easy city to travel around, there is not a lot of traffic compared to other capital cities in Australia which is really nice.  Within half an hour of the city you can live near the beach, in the suburbs or up in the hills, so it depends on what you are looking for.  Overall, I think your family will enjoy it as it is a very easy place to live.  Though the nightlife can be a little limiting which probably will affect your sons more than you.

  2. I live here. Im only 17 though.

Its great, you can live in

    hills; birdwood, lobethal etc

    Suburbs; Tea Tree Gully, Modbury,

    City or even

    Beach; Glenelg, Semaphore.

Stay away from Salisbury, Davoren Park and Elizabeth. And Port Adelaide. Rough Suburbs.

Is good weather, cheap to live in, easy to get around, close to shopping etc, good public transport, employment opportunities.

Very nice city. You will love it.

Email me if there is anything in particular you need to know :)

  3. we went in Dec to visit our friends who moved from uk to there 2 years ago, she has 3 kiddies aged 16,4 , and 3! they all love it! the "trouble" area is Elizabeth , this has a great shopping mall but a bit of a rough area, having said that the accommodation is cheap here. If you can afford more it is best to avoid that area.

We loved Adelaide, easy to drive around, not busy lots of concerts etc, only down side, is shopping is a bit pants! not really the end of the world, but when you are used to Next / Debenhams etc also things like toiletries are expensive - tampax! wow what a rip off! i paid about 10$ for a small box!!! take lots of basics with you (if you have room!!) like that as it was surprising how expensive it was.

They stayed in Glen Elg in a holiday park (like Haven uk sites) for 8 weeks prior to finding their ideal area - they hored a holiday home really cheaply and was glad they did this, they purchased a cheap car and travelled around till they found their ideal location.

They now live in the Barossa Valley , it is beautiful but very quite there.

Also bear in mind that winters in Adelaide can be cooler , they wished they had taken out fleecy tops /trackie bottoms, winter pj etc as hard to find good quality there at a good price.

All in all ,they have a much better quality of life, in the 2 years they have seen - the scissor sisters, Kylie , Elton all in outdoor concerts , it is known as the festival state and there are different festivals on all the time.

You will love it - it wont be easy - she still misses me! ( who wouldnt!!) and family but it has given them a fantastic quality of life.

    Good luck xxxx
