ADO Den Haag’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Verhoek-c36800 denies joining Nottingham Forest – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports in English and Dutch media confirm that ADO Den Haag’s Wesley Verhoek has decided to remain active in the Dutch top tier and has denied joining Nottingham Forest. The 24-year-old was on the verge of signing a contract with the Reds on Tuesday, August
9, but had a sudden change of heart just before he was due to undergo a medical.
Steve McClaren, the Reds manager, had been chasing the highly-rated winger for quite some time, and would be left utterly disappointed with the Dutchman’s decision.
Mark Arthur, the Forest chief executive, confirmed the winger’s decision and revealed that the 24-year-old does not intend to leave his family.
“Wesley is very close to his family and at least has made it clear now that he's not prepared to leave them and move to England”, Arthur said while talking to the media.
Verhoek, on the other hand, revealed that the people in Netherlands would now declare him insane to turn down a lucrative offer from an English club. However, he justified his decision by stating that money cannot buy happiness.
“I will now by 99 percent of the people in the Netherlands to be declared insane. But money does not bring happiness for me”, Verhoek said while talking to the journalists.
The winger then went on to reveal that he was not feeling happy although everyone there at City Ground greeted him well.
“I was very well received by the club, by coach Steve McClaren. Everything looked great, the training ground, the stadium and even the houses and cars. But in the end, I was not feeling happy there. I have much respect for McClaren and his management team”,
the winger concluded.
Reports indicate that the 24-year-old would be pursuing his career at Kyocera Stadion, where he has been playing since making his debut in January 2005. The highly-rated winger has so far made well over 150 appearances, scoring 26 goals while providing a
bagful of assists.
