ADO Den Haag’s Wesley Verhoek happy to have declined Nottingham Forest’s offer – Dutch Eredivisie news
ADO Den Haag’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Verhoek-c36800 has expressed happiness after refusing to join Nottingham Forest this summer. The 24-year-old has remained a long-term target for the Forest but failed to lure him away from Kyocera Stadion.
The promising winger had a phenomenal 2010/11 campaign at ADO, where he provided an impressive 14 assists and scored seven goals in 32 appearances. Such outings earned him interest from a host of elite European clubs. However, no interested club, apart form
the Forest, came up with any concrete offer for the wide man.
The Dutch ace revealed that he is content with his decision of rejecting the Npower Championship outfit.
“The club is in 18th place I think. Five points from five matches in the Npower Championship and Mr. McClaren was thinking that I would join his side”, Verhoek was quoted as saying to the media.
The winger then went on to reveal that he would be working hard on his weaker left foot and his speed this season.
“I would be training extra this season to improve my left foot and my speed. I would also try something to control my temperament on the pitch, as I earned seven unnecessary yellow cards last term”, the 24-year-old added.
After turning down the offer from the Nottingham Forest, reports in Dutch media had suggested that the wide man does not intend to move abroad due to homesickness. However, the Dutchman has mooted such speculations and clearly stated that all the stories
in the media are false.
“And the stories that suggest that I do not want to play abroad are all nonsense. Playing away from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 remains a dream for me, but at the right club”, Verhoek concluded.
The impressive winger was heavily linked with a move away from his parent club in the recently concluded summer transfer window. However, ADO would be delighted to hold on to their prized asset for another season.
