  1. There are really only two satellite providers in the US at this time - DirecTV and Dish Network.  Both of them have websites with information about pricing, channel availability and special discounts.

We went with Dish.  We got 1 HD-DVR, 1 regular DVR, (both with dual-channel tuners), 200 channels including HD for $80/mo + $200 in rebates  I don't know what their deal is nowadays, but the joy of competition is...the consumer wins.

  2. I'm happy with my directv satellite - great picture quality with more channels and HD than anyone.  The prices you need to compare.  Cable will always be behind the curve on HD and direct is ahead of dish for now.

  3. I've been a Dish Network subscriber for about 9 years.  I wouldn't go back to cable.

In nine years, There have only been two rate hikes I can remember, and one of them was only on HBO.  I get about 300 channels including super stations, movie channels, GAC and Locals (all of which are extra) for a total of about $96/ month.  Granted, I could dump a few of these channels if I needed to reduce the bill, but cable would cost waaay more for this much stuff.

Dish is also much more dependable than cable ever was.  Cable constantly had outages.  I've only lost the Dish Net signal maybe 5 times in nine years and then for only about three or four minutes.

We also have a dual DVR that allows us to record two things at once.  I believe that's extra cost with cable.

    I hope this helps.
