AEG Sports looking ahead at a promising Tour of California 2012
A total number of 16 teams to ride the 7th edition of the Amgen Tour of California have been announced by the race organisers.
The event is scheduled from May 13-20 and cyclists will fight for an overall victory after a gruelling 750 miles during the eight stages.
A total number of sixteen teams will ride the event including eight UCI Pro Tour teams, four UCI Professional Continental and four UCI Continental teams during the 2012 version of the event.
Kristin Bachochin is the senior vice president of AEG sports and also the executive director of the race. He is certain that the tour will again be a success just like the previous years.
He noted, "These 16 teams represent the most prestigious field of talent ever to compete in our race and we are honoured to have them join us for the seventh edition of the Amgen Tour of California".
“Cycling fans will see some favourite and familiar faces back in California this May, as well as a few new teams who will be racing with us for the first time", Bachochin concluded
Floyd Landis succeeded during the first version of the race back in 2006 while Levi Leipheimer holds the honour of winning it for a maximum number of three times (2007-09).
Chris Horner claimed the overall victory during the 2011 version of the race with Levi Leipheimer and Tom Danielson achieving the second and the third positions.
The race will kick-off at the Santa Rosa on May 13th as announced by the race organisers, AEG Sports.
Cyclists will cover an approximate distance of 750 miles across some of the most beautiful highways across the city.
Horner is looking ahead to claim his second consecutive victory at the race and has cited that Tour of California is amongst his favourite races of the season.
“I'm looking forward to coming back to defend my title - it promises to be a fantastic eight days in California!” he mentioned.
A total number of eight UCI Pro Teams to ride the event include BMC Racing Team, Rabobank Cycling Team, Team Garmin- Barracuda, Team RadioShack-Nissan and Team Liquigas-Cannondale.
Team Omega Pharma – QuickStep, Team AG2R La Mondiale and GreenEdge Cycling Team will also participate at event.
Team Spidertech Powered by C10, UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team, Project 1t4i and Team Colombia-Coldeportes are the four UCI Professional Continental Teams.
While the four UCI Continental teams riding the event include Team Optum Presented By Kelly, Benefit Strategies, Bissell Pro Cycling, Team Exergy and Bontrager Livestrong Team.
Only time will tell, if Horner can secure his second consecutive victory at the Californian race.
The 40-year-old has already found his form during the Tirreno-Adriatico after his second place finish at the Italian race.
