AEGON GB Pro - Series Wrexham and BCR Open tennis tournament - Thursday’s Review
The final four at the AEGON GB Pro-Series Wrexham tennis tournament have been decided after a total of three British tennis contenders registered wins at the North Wales Regional Tennis Centre on Thursday.
The first clash produced the surprise of Thursday as the eight seeded tennis player Sean Thornley managed to upset his top seeded tennis foe,
Dan Evans in a total of two sets. The final match score was 7-5, 6-3.
It was the first occasion that Sean had managed to beat Dan as the twenty one year old avenged loss to the number six Britisher at the AEGON GB Pro-Series in Ilkley during the month of July.
There were no such issues for the second seeded Dan Cox who triumphed against Marcus Willis in the second all British quarter final battle. The final match score was 7-5, 6-2.
The Lincolnshire tennis ace, who will celebrate his 20th birthday next week, will meet Thornley in the semi final round of the AEGON GB Pro-Series Wrexham tennis tournament.
As a result of rainy conditions in North Wales, the last two quarter final clashes were contested indoors with the French tennis player Rudy Coco outlasting David Rice in a total of three sets on Thursday. The final match score
was 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.
The third British tennis player who made his way into the semi final round of the AEGON GB Pro-Series Wrexham was Josh Milton who got the better of the fourth seeded Antony Dupuis from France in a total of two sets. The final match
score was 6-3, 7-5.
In the doubles matches, Dan Evans made up for his singles defeat by teaming up with Lewis Burton to brush aside the top seeded duo from Iran, Colin O'Brien and James Cluskey in the semi final match on Thursday. The final match
score was 6-3, 7-6(5) in the semi-finals.
In the second semi-final of Thursday, the second seeded duo David Rice and Sean Thornley hammered down Chris Simpson and Alan Bevan in straight sets.
In other news, the third seeded Potito Starace has booked a quarter final berth in the BCR Open tennis tournament after rallying to beat a wild card entrant Victor Crivoi on Thursday. The Italian tennis player was later joined
by another qualifier, Pablo Andujar, who managed to upset his second seeded foe, Florian Mayer.
Starace got the better of Victor Crivoi in a total of three sets. The final match score was 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-4. The third seeded Italian prevailed a tough round two clash, having rallied to end the BCR Open campaign of Victor Crivoi
in a total of three sets on Thursday. Starace as a result of his two hours and forty five minutes victory has reached the quarter final round of the tournament.
After battling to level the clash, the Italian smashed a total of six aces and prevented a total of four break points during the third set of the match on Thursday.
Potito as a result of this victory will play Marcel Granollers next, for a spot in the semi final round of the tournament. The Spaniard made his way into the quarters after getting the better of Filippo Volandri in a total of three
sets on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Pablo Andujar also did well to knock down Florian Mayer in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Pablo Andujar, a qualifier fought into the last eight after playing some great tennis against Florian. The Spaniard prevented a total of five out of seven break opportunities in the time period of two hours and twelve minutes on
Thursday. With the second-round win, the world number 105 extended his tour level year record to 5-5.

Pablo as a result of this victory is slated to play Pablo Cuevas in the quarters.  The Uruguayan eliminated Carlos Berlocq in the second round in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-0, 6-4.
