Reports from Amsterdam Arena suggest that AS Roma have shown interest to sign Ajax Amsterdam’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been continuously linked with a move away from his current club in the summer and it seems like the gloves-man
could pursue his career in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 with La Maggica being the latest outfit to have shown interest in his services.
Reports suggest that Roma are in search of a new goalkeeper following poor performances from Doni and Julio http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 in the recently concluded season and have set their sights on the Dutch International, who is deemed to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.
The Serie A outfit were previously being linked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar. However, their attention has now been switched to the current Dutch number one, who has been linked with a host of elite European clubs such
as Manchester United, Arsenal FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid.
The Dutch International has made well over 200 appearances for the Amsterdammers and was awarded the captaincy earlier this year following Luis Suarez’s exit to Liverpool. The highly-rated custodian has an ongoing contract that keeps him at Amsterdam Arena
until the summer of 2012.
Robert Jansen, Stekelenburg’s agent, admitted that his client is looking for a move abroad, but he revealed that none of the interested clubs have yet approached him.
“Maarten has been with Ajax a long time, and I think it's time to look around and be able to try a new experience. Rome? We still have not heard any from AS Roma, but it certainly would be an option to consider”, Jansen was quoted as saying to the media.
The gloves man’s agent further revealed that the decision to make a move would not be influenced by the fact that the Giallorossi would not be playing UEFA Champions League football in the upcoming season.
“Stekelenburg would not be influenced by the fact that next year the Giallorossi are not playing in the Champions League. The club is still of a great value”, Janssen concluded.
Reports suggest that the Amsterdammers are looking to offer the 28-year-old a contract extension that will keep him at Amsterdam Arena until the summer of 2014. However, should the newly crowned Eredivisie champions fail to reach an agreement with the Dutch
International, an offer in the region of 10 million Euros would be enough to lure the gloves-man away from Amsterdam.
