Ajax Amsterdam striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mounir-El-Hamdaoui-c26905, is yet to join the Amsterdammers first-team after recovering from a hamstring injury. Reports from Amsterdam Arena confirm that the Moroccan International has started training separately. The 26-year-old striker did not play any part in the the Amsterdammers’ loss in the KNVB beker Cup final at the hands of FC Twente Enschede in Rotterdam on Sunday.
Although the Moroccan International has started light training it is still unclear whether the striker will fully recover to play against the Tukkers in the title-deciding encounter at the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, May 15.
The outfit from Amsterdam have suffered in the Moroccan International’s absence this seasons. The technically gifted striker missed some games due to disciplinary reasons and was sidelined with the injury upon his return to the first team. Of the six matches that Ajax have lost since the winter break, the 26-year-old wasn’t playing in four of them. The defeats include two UEFA Europa League fixtures while the Dutch Cup final is the most recent negative result.
Manager Frank de Boer would be hoping that Hamdaoui recovers fully from his hamstring injuryin time for the decisive title clash against Twente. De Boer’s men will have the advantage of playing at their home stadium, but Hamdaoui’s inclusion will make them favourites to win the title.
The Amsterdammers are sitting second in the league table, a solitary point behind the league leaders http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233. It means that they need to secure all three points in their upcoming encounter if they have any ambition to become Dutch champions this season.
Ajax Amsterdam will select the squad to play against the Tukkers on Friday. Hamdaoui will have to pass a late fitness test to be included in the squad and play a role in the Amsterdammers bid to win their 30th Eredivisie title in their history. Should the Moroccan International remain sidelined for the upcoming encounter, Dario Cvitanich would be replacing the 26-year-old striker. Cvitanich played in the Dutch Cup final where his side eventually lost in the extra-time.
