Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has every right to be pleased following his side’s 2-0 win against Dinamo Zagreb. The Dutch Champions upstaged the hosts in the UEFA Champions League group stage encounter at Stadion Maksimir on Tuesday, October
18.
The Amsterdammers boss was unable to hide his happiness after his side registered their maiden victory in this edition of Europe’s primary club competition. The Dutch mentor praised his troops’ efforts on the pitch and admitted that his side dominated
proceedings in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 for most part of the match.
De Boer was quoted as saying to the media in the post-match press conference:
“I am very happy as we dominated most of the time. They started pretty well and had two good chances to score at the beginning. We created some chances in the first half but failed to take them”.
Ajax played aggressively right from the kick-off and created plenty of chances in the opening 45 minutes. However, they failed to break the deadlock before the interval.
Four minutes after the break, the Amsterdammers deservingly grabbed the lead through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miralem-Sulejmani-c25985 played an impressive through ball to Boerrigter, who made no mistake in hitting the bottom left corner of the net.
The hosts tried to crawl their way back into the match and created some opportunities. However, De Joden goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenneth-Vermeer-c20618, made some good saves to deny the home side from equalising.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Janssen-c34871 could have doubled the lead in the 57th minute, but the hosts goalkeeper made a brilliant save to deny the 30-year-old from adding his name to the score-sheet.
With time running out on the clock, it seemed like the Dutch giants would cruise to a 1-0 win. However, Christian Eriksen’s neat strike in injury time wrapped up the success in style in favour of Ajax.
The Dutch trainer also praised his side’s defence that put a solid performance to claim a clean-sheet.
“It was also important to not concede a goal. That is important for the goalkeeper, the defence and the whole team but obviously the victory is the most important thing. At half-time I said we had to drop the ball in behind their defence more as that
caused them a lot of trouble. I was disappointed we did not score one or two goals sooner”, De Boer concluded.
Three points for Ajax now sees them leapfrog Olympique Lyon into second place in Group D. The French giants were on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing from Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu in a concurrent match.
