Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, has expressed contentment on his troops’ performance following the goalless stalemate against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 in the latest round of UEFA Champions League. The duel took place at Stade de Gerland on Tuesday, November
22.
The Dutch giants started the match aggressively and came close to taking the lead in the fifth minute. However, Theo Janssen’s header went wide of the target. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miralem-Sulejmani-c25985 then went on to miss another opportunity, firing just wide from the edge of the
box.
Ajax clearly remained the dominant side in the opening half and their impressive play continued to trouble the home side after the break.
Although the French giants showed their class in the closing stages of the match, they also failed to break the deadlock, thanks to some brilliant saves by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kenneth-Vermeer-c20618.
De Boer admitted that although his side failed to score, he is still satisfied with his side’s performance.
While talking to the media, the Dutch mentor said:
“I am satisfied with both the result and the performance. We played very well for long periods. We tried to play good football and I think we had more possession in the first half. In the final ten minutes Lyon went 'all or nothing'. Luckily, for us Kenneth
Vermeer made two fine saves late on but we also had chances to score ourselves”.
The 41-year-old tactician then went on to admit that his side played with a lot of determination and deservingly achieved a good result.
“I am not surprised at how well we played because I know how good my team is. If we play as a team, and with determination like we did today, then we are capable of these performances all the time. I am proud of my players”, De Boer concluded.
The Amsterdammers will battle against Real Madrid in their next Champions League encounter at Amsterdam Arena on December 7. De Boer would be hoping that his side stage an impressive show in front their home crowd and achieve a good result to progress through
to the next phase of the competition.
