Ajax Amsterdam managed to cruise to a 3-1 win over Noordwijk in their KNVB beker Cup encounter at Sportpark Duinwetering on Wednesday, September 21.
However, manager Frank de Boer has expressed his unhappiness with his side’s performance on the pitch despite the win.
The 18-time Dutch Cup winners staged a sloppy show in the opening half even though they were leading the match 1-0 at half-time interval, thanks to a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Siem-de-Jong-c33482 goal.
“The first half was especially sloppy. We were only 1-0 ahead at the break”, De Boer said while talking to the media.
After the half-time break, the Amsterdammers put up a better display and goals from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dmitri-Bulykin-c11392 and Lesley de Sa, in the 56th and 62nd minute of the match respectively, sealed the game. The hosts pulled one back through Sijbren Bartlema,
but it was too little too late for the visitors.
“I told them that we needed to play the ball from left to right faster. The match was then a done deal in a matter of minutes”, De Boer added.
The Dutch trainer experimented with his line-up in the Cup match by introducing new faces. However, the tactician was far from pleased with his troops’ efforts against a third tier outfit.
“You come here with the idea to play many of the guys who don't get many minutes in the first team. It's a shame that that our play was a bit disappointing. I thought we were impatient”, the 41-year-old added.
The former Dutch International then went on to praise the efforts put in by Noordwijk.
“I want to compliment Noordwijk, because they really wanted to make a game of it”, De Boer concluded.
The Dutch trainer will be hoping that his troops stage a better show in their upcoming league encounter against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede at Amsterdam Arena on Saturday, September 24. The 41-year-old will be looking to secure maximum points in this encounter and
better their position in the Eredivisie table.
