AFC Ajax directors resigned after incongruity with Johan Cruyff
The board of directors of Dutch Eredivisie giants, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AFC-Ajax-c38228 Amsterdam, have announced to part company with the club. The Amsterdammers legend and advisor, Johan Cruyff, suggested many changes and the directors were fully opposed to his suggestions. Consequently,
the board of directors decided to step down from their respective posts at Amsterdam Arena.
Cruyff rejoined the Amsterdammers in an advisory role this year on 10
February, with his prime focus on De Joden’s renowned youth academy. The 63-year-old legend was likely to focus on the technical aspects of the club and serve as an adviser to the Amsterdammers manager, Frank de Boer. However, it looks like that De Joden are
having difficulties in adopting to his methods on how to run the club, as three of the Amsterdammers’ directors have resigned due to disagreement with the 63-year-old legend.
De Joden’s Chairman, Uri Coronel, Cor van Eijden, and Joop Krant have resigned from their respective posts at Amsterdam Arena, but they have stated to remain at the club until their replacements are found.
Coronel said, “This process, especially the continuing unrest around the club, is extraordinarily damaging for Ajax. By resigning, they wish to live up to their responsibilities and offer the club the space and opportunity to break out of the looming impasse.
We are making a profit; we are investing in the youth academy — look at the first team, look at the Dutch team. We are not bigger than Ajax. Johan Cruyff is not just anyone. He's a semi-god here, or maybe a whole god.”
The Amsterdammers directors’ resignation was because Cruyff gave many suggestions regarding firing employees who have ongoing contracts. Cruyff also wanted to have a bigger part in running the club and wanted the same for the Amsterdammers tactician. The
board of directors’ were not happy with the former legend’s role, as his suggestions have led to a general meeting that could see his ideas approved or rejected.
The Amsterdammers are currently placed third in the league table, trailing the league leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 Enschede, by six and five points respectively. With six matches left to play in the season, Eredivisie title to
achieve looks farfetched. However, they will be looking to win the KNVB beker Cup, as the Amsterdammers have qualified for the finals of the league cup.
The resignation of the club’s directors will definitely affect the Amsterdammers this season. In search of the replacements of the directors’ means, the members’ council must now go in search of successors. The members’ council appoints the members of the
board of directors, as predetermined in the articles of association for the Amsterdammers. It means that the new members’ appointment requires an astonishing general meeting of all the shareholders of the club.
