Ajax Amsterdam head coach, Frank de Boer, wants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998 to stay at Amsterdam Arena for at least another season. The duo has remained heavily linked with a move away from Amsterdam Arena in the ongoing summer transfer market, as a host of elite European clubs are interested in adding the players to their ranks before the 2011/12 campaign commences.
Vertonghen started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2006/07 season after spending three years at Jong Ajax, the Amsterdammers fabled youth academy. The Belgian International netted 15 goals in well over 100 appearances.
The central defender, who started his career as a midfielder, has remained linked with the likes of Manchester City, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC and AC Milan, but has denied moving away from his parent club. The 24-year-old has an ongoing contract with De Joden that runs until the summer of 2013.
Boer is hoping for the Belgian stopper to prolong his stay at Amsterdam Arena and revealed that the defender would soon be discussing a new contract.
“I asked him to sign and he was positive about it. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Blind (Ajax's technical manager) will soon hold talks with his agent. Jan has indicated he would move to any club, but for now he is at Ajax and seems to be happy here. I've given him a picture of what can happen if we stay together for another two years and then maybe he can get a better transfer”, Boer said while talking to the journalists.
It seems likely that the Belgian International would be competing in the UEFA Champions League with the Amsterdammers in the upcoming season. However, Stekelenburg’s presence remains under clouds. The Dutch international has decided against renewing his contract and the club run the risk of losing him on a Bosman move in the next summer.
The Dutch International has been guarding the net for Ajax since the 2005/06 season, but now wants a move to pastures greener. Atletico Madrid, AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 and Manchester City have remained heavily linked with the shot-stopper, but the Amsterdammers head coach has revealed that none of the interested clubs have shown interest in signing the 28-year-old in the ongoing summer transfer market.
“There is currently no interest in him. We want to clarify whether he is staying or not and whether he wants to extend his current contract. If not, then a winter transfer seems probable”, the Dutch trainer concluded.
Reports suggest that Ajax would not let go of Stekelenburg for anything less than 10 million Euros in the ongoing summer transfer market. However, pundits suggest that any bid in the region of 7 million Euros should be deemed good enough by the club hierarchy.
