AFC Ajax’s Gregory van der Wiel believes that he is ready for challenges ahead – Eredivisie news
AFC Ajax's Amsterdam versatile defender, Gregory van der Wiel, has stated that he is ready for the challenges ahead. The 23-year-old right back believes that he has matured and has adopted footballer’s life. The Dutch international has shown great determination
to help the Amsterdammers to lift their 30th Eredivisie title with his good performances at the beck line.
Van der Wiel said, “I was acting tough, had a big mouth and I deserved it. At Haarlem, I focused on my game and I calmed down. I progressed and I came back here even though I had offers from other teams. This is my club, this is my town and I wanted to show
that I’d changed. I’ve grown up, I’ve matured. I’ve got used to the lifestyle of a footballer. I take each day as it comes.”
The defender admitted that he was delighted with top European clubs, but he revealed that his primary objective is to achieve honours as his career build up.
Van der Wiel added, “I’ve never left Amsterdam and I don’t know what life is like elsewhere. It would be a huge challenge, but it ought to work out well, I’m sure of that. I want to win trophies, keep progressing and play at the very highest level.”
The Dutch international is the product of the Amsterdammers famous youth academy. He started his career at the Amsterdam Arena in 2007-08 season. However, his superb performances this season have attracted a host of top European clubs, who are eager to sign
the versatile defender in the upcoming transfer window.

the season.

The 23-year-old versatile defender’s current contract with De Joden runs until the summer of 2013. With the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus FC and English Premier League clubs, it seems like that the versatile defender could be on his way out of the Eredivisie
at the end of the season.
