AFC Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen praises http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130
In the latest round of UEFA Champions League, Ajax Amsterdam managed to record a goalless draw against Olympique Lyonnais at Stade de Gerland on Tuesday, November 22.
The Amsterdammers central defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, praised his side’s goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer following his phenomenal performance between the two posts.
Ajax started the match brightly and put the home side in all sorts of trouble with impressive movement upfront. However, their attack failed to hit the target with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lorenzo-Ebecilio-c22428 and Jan Vertonghen all missing their goal-scoring
opportunities.
In the second-half, the French giants started to show their class and put immense pressure on the Amsterdammers. However, Vermeer made some brilliant saves to restrict OL’s attack pack from finding the back of the net.
Vertonghen admitted that his side played impressively, but failed to convert any on their chances to hit the back of the net. While talking to the media, the Belgian stopper said:
“We played a good game. We started well and it's a pity we didn't convert any of our chances. Even a 1-1 draw would have taken us through but at the same time our goalkeeper [Vermeer] made a few good saves at the end so we are happy with the 0-0 draw”.
The captain then went on to praise the impressive show put in by Vermeer while guarding the net.
“He did amazingly well with the shots from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alexandre-Lacazette-c4895. He was amazing. We were tired in the last ten minutes because we gave everything and Lyon have good players who could have decided the game at the end so we had to be careful”,
Vertonghen concluded.
After securing a point, Ajax are now looking the favourites to progress through to the next phase of Europe’s primary club competition. The Amsterdammers are occupying the second spot in group D, three points ahead of OL, while having a goal difference of
seven better than the French giants.
The Amsterdam giants will lock horns against Real Madrid while Lyon will battle against Dinamo Zagreb in their next Champions League encounter on December 7.
