AFC Ajax’s Jan Vertonghen recovers from a groin injury – Dutch Eredivisie news
Ajax Amsterdam would be boosted with the news that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814 has recovered from a groin injury earlier than expected. The highly-rated defender was initially excluded from the pre-season training camp held in Germany, but has now joined his teammates
at the training camp in Furth under the leadership of Frank de Boer.
The 24-year-old started his professional career in the 2006/07 season at Amsterdam Arena after training with Jong Ajax, Ajax’s fabled youth academy, for almost three years. Since then, the highly-rated defender has represented the Amsterdam giants in well
over 100 matches and also managed to find the back of the net on 15 occasions.
The Amsterdammers lifted the Eredivisie title in the season ended, much to owe to the Belgian International’s exceptional performances at the back-line. His good performances were not gone unnoticed, as a host of elite European club including the likes of
Arsenal FC, Manchester City and AC Milan remained keenly interested to add the defender to their back-line. However, the 24-year-old clearly indicated that he wants to stay with his parent club for another season.
Despite interest from a host of top European clubs, the Belgian International’s decision to prolong his stay in Amsterdam can only be attributed due to his side’s participation in the UEFA Champions League. The 24-year-old earlier revealed that he wants
to help his side in achieving good results in Europe’s most prestigious club competition. In addition, the defender thinks that his parent club’s signings in the ongoing transfer market has strengthened the squad and believes that the future looks a lot rosier
for his side than the last decade.
Ajax played a friendly match on Wednesday, July 14, against a German third tier outfit in preparation for the new season. The game ended in a goalless draw with Boer expressing his disappointment with the play of his side.
The Amsterdammers played the friendly without http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Stekelenburg-c22998, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson and Vertonghen. However, reports suggest that the tactician is looking forward to use the trio in the upcoming friendly against another German outfit on the weekend.
