AFC Ajax’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Siem-de-Jong-c33482 signs a contract extension – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from Amsterdam confirm that Ajax Amsterdam have successfully managed to extend Siem de Jong’s stay at Amsterdam Arena. The 22-year-old, whose previous contract was due to expire in 2013, has penned down a new deal that will keep him with the Amsterdam
giants until the summer of 2015.
The promising youngster started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the 2007/08 season after training at Jong Ajax, the Amsterdammers’ fabled youth academy, for two years. The attacking midfielder has so far represented Ajax in well over 75 games
and has netted 25 goals as well.
The midfield ace’s performances were exceptional in the season ended, as he played a vital role in the Amsterdammers’ Eredivisie triumph. The Dutch International scored 12 goals in 32 appearances and provided a bagful of assists as well.
The 22-year-old was delighted after renewing his contract at Amsterdam Arena and revealed that his ambition is to help his side claim the Eredivisie title again.
“My goal is to win the championship again and to contribute as much as possible to the team. I am happy to extend my contract because I really like it here. Ajax are good for my development”, De Jong said while talking to the media.
The youngster then went on to reveal that he wants to play as many games for the Amsterdammers as he could and admitted that the competition has become even more stiffer following the acquisition of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thulani-Serero-c35022 and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.
“I want to play as many games as I could, whether in the midfield or as a striker. There is much competition in the midfield, and the new season will be difficult. Everybody must continue to prove their place in the playing eleven, as our selection has broaden
up after the signings of Sigthorsson, Janssen and Serero”, De Jong concluded.
The talented attacking midfielder would be hoping to perform even better in the upcoming 2011/12 campaign and would be looking to get more playing minutes as well.
