AFC Ajax’s Toby Alderweireld and Gregory van der Wiel back in action – Dutch Eredivisie news
Ajax Amsterdam have received morale boosting news just before the crucial encounter against FC Twente Enschede, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toby-Alderweireld-c35183 and Gregory van der Wiel have recovered from their respective injuries.
Frank de Boer, Ajax manager, will be a relieved man with the return of two star defenders. De Boer’s side now looks as good as complete in preparation for the final and Eredivisie title deciding encounter against FC Twente.
Alderweireld received a hip injury during a training session at Amsterdam Arena on Tuesday, May 11. However, the 22-year-old centre-back started light training the following day and has now started heavy exercise to recover in time.
Van der Wiel was slightly injured during a training session, but he also recovered quickly and reports from Amsterdam Arena have confirmed that both defenders have proved their fitness and are available for selection.
The Amsterdammers currently sit second in the league table, trailing the league leaders FC Twente by a lone point. With only one match left to play in the season, the outfit from Amsterdam have every right to remain confident about a 30th Eredivisie
title.
The Dutch giants have performed impressively throughout the season and especially after the winter break. Ajax have lost only five of their 33 encounters so far, owing much to their impressive back-line that consists of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814, Alderweireld, Van
der Wiel and Andre Ooijer. The watertight defence has only conceded 29 goals all season. The Amsterdammers, however, will have to do without the services of their leading goal-scorer, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mounir-El-Hamdaoui-c26905, in the upcoming encounter. The Moroccan International
striker is still suffering from a hamstring injury.
Ajax will clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233 at Amsterdam Arena on Sunday, May 15. The Amsterdammers need all three points to become Dutch champions, while the Tukkers need a solitary point to defend their title.
It will be a tough encounter between the two sides and the outfit from Amsterdam is now looking stronger than the Tukkers, as their impressive back-line will be at its full strength for the upcoming encounter.
