AFC Ajax’s Toby Alderweireld sees Barcelona’s Gerard Pique as an example – Dutch Eredivisie news
Ajax Amsterdam centre-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toby-Alderweireld-c35183, has revealed that he sees Barcelona’s Gerard Pique as an example and desires to match the level of the 24-year-old’s game.
The Belgian stopper is a product of renowned De Joden youth academy and started his professional career at Ajax in the summer of 2008. In the past couple of seasons, the 22-year-old has formed an exceptional partnership with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814 at the back, providing
rock solid defence.
The central defender is aiming for the level reached by Gerard Pique, and revealed that he is yet to polish his skills to further his talent.
“To reach the level of Barcelona defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique is my dream. Why should not I dream? I am only 22, but I stood my ground against big teams while I was representing Belgian team. Pique is a whooper, I realize, but he was not in the first team of Barcelona
at my age”, Alderweireld said.
Pique started his career at Manchester United in the 2004/05 season after spending seven years at the Catalans giants’ youth academy. The Spanish stopper failed to make an impact at Old Trafford in his four-season stay and returned to Barca in the summer
of 2008. Pique has not looked back since then and has played a vital role for the European champions at the back.
Alderweireld admitted that the Spanish International, in every aspect, is better than him.
“He has charisma, is better defensively.... And he has a beautiful girlfriend, Shakira. He is indeed better in this area as well. I am single. Great, I can totally focus on football”, the 22-year-old added.
Ajax managed to lift the Eredivisie title last term and earned direct qualification to play in UEFA Champions League. The Belgian stopper has a lot of faith in his side and believes that the Amsterdam giants can achieve good results in Europe’s primary club
competition.
