AFC or NFC? Indianapolis Colts former QB Peyton Manning is open to all options-NFL News
Indianapolis Colts’ former quarterback, Peyton Manning, is said to be open to all options regarding his next destination and a final decision about his future move is expected to come within a week.
About a dozen teams are reported to have approached the player’s representatives since his release by Colts on Wednesday, March 07, 2012.
The situation around Manning’s prospects of joining any of the potential teams is likely to be clearer later next week, and a process of formal contacts between his representatives and teams’ managers might be initiated then.
Manning himself has not spoken of his preferences, and according to some reports, he even has made himself available to play for the teams in the National Football Conference (NFC), instead of just sticking to the American Football Conference (AFC).
However, some latest reports also suggested that Manning might not entertain any offer from Washington Redskins.
Until Wednesday, the player said he did not know about his next destination, but the waiver by the Indianapolis Colts makes his next move inevitable.
Since the National Football League (NFL) is through to the offseason and free agency market opens on March 13, 2012, the timing and atmosphere is conducive for Manning’s choice of joining another team.
The chances of righteousness of the player’s choice are even higher due to different advices he has been receiving from former and present football gurus on the prevalent situation and tactics.
For example, Miami Dolphins’ quarterback, Dan Marino, has noted that the player has a number of people "working with him to help him make the right decisions." Yet, he offered extending a helping hand to Manning as and when required.
He said:
"I think he fits with anybody. He's one of the best to ever play the game at that position. So wherever he ends up playing, if he's healthy, which is going to be important to Peyton, I'm sure he wants to go out there and play at a high level. Wherever he
plays, he'll be a huge impact for that team."
With ever increasing number of teams showing interest in signing Manning, almost all of them are now awaiting the player’s response.
There is no statement from Peyton’s agent and the player himself has also denied being in touch with any of the teams pointed out by media to be his potential suitors.
He said earlier:
"I have no idea who wants me, what team wants me, how this process works."
Meanwhile, the quarterback said that he was focused on his recovery and rehab, which according to him, was on target, setting hopes for his return before the start of 2012 NFL regular season in September. Yet he said that he did not have anything to prove
anyone.
