AFECAVOL U 23 Men’s Volleyball Championship starts today in Honduras – Volleyball News
Under the supervision of Asociación de Federaciones Centroamericanas de Voleibol (AFECAVOL), the town of Tegucigalpa in Honduras is scheduled to play host a thrilling volleyball competition from July 10-14.
All the arrangements have been finalised and the action will be kicked off today. U 23 volleyball teams from seven Central American countries will be on board to showcase their thirst for victory in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Participating teams of the tournament will be divided into two pools: Pool A and Pool B. Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua will be placed in Pool A, whereas Pool B will be composed of teams from Panama, Costa Rica, and hosts Honduras.
Prior to the Men’s U 23 Volleyball Championship, the women’s edition of the tournament completed its run in the month of June, and the event turned out to be a huge success. Women’s national volleyball team from Costa Rica proved to be the best and emerged
as the champion of the competition. Next up, the men’s U 23 teams from the Central American countries have the same opportunity to catch the limelight.
According to the set formula of AFECAVOL Volleyball Federation, the tournament will be opened with the preliminary round-robin. Top two teams of the preliminaries from each pool will advance to the semi-final stage of the championship. The winners of the
semis will meet in the final showdown, while the losers will battle for bronze-ware in the classification match.
Guatemala has the honour to secure the top spot at the previous edition of Central American Championship. The defending champions have high hopes to once again claw their way to the top spot and to keep the title in their custody. However, the runners-up
of the last year Costa Rica will surely try to hinder the performance of their top-notch rival. Moreover, the hosts Honduras finished third in 2011, but have the strong desire to do well in the upcoming matches. Home squad will be equipped with stupendous
support of local fans. Likewise, the competitive advantage of playing at the familiar court will also put a nice effect on team’s performance.
The winner of the AFECAVOL U 23 Men’s Volleyball Championship will earn the right to play at the inaugural U-23 Men’s Pan American Cup, which is scheduled to be held in Vancouver, Canada in coming September.
